The best US virtual number apps for people outside the US, compared (2026)

Who lets you sign up from abroad, what one US number costs, and what is included. This site sells the TripoSIM US number; every other provider's values come from its own linked pages, checked October 29, 2026.

Short answer

If you live outside the US, Google Voice and TextNow are usually closed to you: both require you to sign up from the US or North America. Hushed, TINE, Sonetel, Numero, Quo and the TripoSIM US number all sell US numbers to people abroad, but they differ in price, included calls, texting and who they are built for. The table compares them from each provider's own pages.

What does a year cost at your calling level?

Prices per number say little on their own: some plans include minutes, others charge each minute. This table works out one year on the yearly plan of TripoSIM, which includes minutes, and TINE, which charges each minute, for calls to US and Canadian numbers, with 60 minutes a month of incoming calls. Texts are left out.

One year on the yearly plan, by minutes of calls out each month, before tax, prices checked October 29, 2026
Calls out to the US and CanadaTripoSIM US numberTINE
No calls out$100.00$56.39 (lowest)
60 minutes a month$100.00$77.99 (lowest)
150 minutes a month$100.00 (lowest)$110.39
300 minutes a month$100.00 (lowest)$164.39
500 minutes a month$220.00 (lowest)$236.39

How it is worked out: TripoSIM is $100 a year with 300 minutes a month, then $5 per 100 minutes more; incoming calls are included. TINE is $49.99 a year with $8 of credit, then 3 cents a minute out and 2 cents a minute in. TINE also lets you send texts; TripoSIM receives texts only. Monthly plans cost more on both. Plans with unlimited calling, such as Hushed, are in the table above.

One provider at a time

Each page puts one provider next to the TripoSIM US number, with when each suits you better and what happens to the number if you stop paying.

  • Hushed or TripoSIM$6.99 a month or $66.99 a year, plus tax
  • TextNow or TripoSIMFree with ads; Unlimited Plan $35.99 a month
  • TINE or TripoSIM$5 a month or $49.99 a year, with a small calling and texting credit
  • Sonetel or TripoSIMFrom $1.79 a month for the number

When is another provider the better choice?

  • You need to send texts and Hushed works in your country: Hushed costs less, $6.99 a month or $66.99 a year, with unlimited calls and two-way texts in the US and Canada on select numbers. It is not available in 35 countries, including India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Egypt and the Philippines.
  • You call little and are happy to use a web browser: TINE costs $49.99 a year and charges each minute, so it costs less than TripoSIM until you call out for about two hours a month (with an hour of incoming calls). Its phone apps are not out yet.
  • You mostly receive calls and want the lowest number price: Sonetel numbers start at $1.79 a month, with calls charged per minute and incoming texts sent to your email.
  • You run a team that shares numbers and texts customers: Quo is built for business teams, from $15 a user a month billed yearly. Business texting needs registration with The Campaign Registry.
  • You live in the US or Canada: Google Voice and TextNow are free or low-cost options there, but you cannot sign up for either from outside North America.

Where does the TripoSIM US number fit?

It is built for people who live outside the US. You can buy it from almost any country except sanctioned ones, with a short ID check. It includes 300 minutes a month of calls to the US and Canada, incoming calls with no roaming charges, voicemail, and texts from US and Canadian senders, including verification codes from apps such as WhatsApp. It costs $100 a year or $12.99 a month, and the number stays yours while your plan is active.

It does not send texts and cannot call 911. If you need either, one of the options above, or a US carrier line, suits you better. Not sure? The fit checker asks nine short questions.
