Why do US clients prefer a US number?
Many US clients hesitate to dial an international number: they are unsure of the cost or the dialing code. A +1 number removes that friction. It also keeps work calls separate from your personal number.
What setup works best?
- Choose an area code where most of your clients are, or a well-known one like New York 212.
- Record a voicemail greeting that states your working hours in the client's time zone.
- Add the number to your invoices, proposals and profiles, with the time zone next to it.
- Turn on notifications for the app so you never miss a call during working hours.
Can you use it to verify Upwork or Fiverr?
Yes. The number receives verification codes (OTP SMS) from apps, and TripoSIM tested Upwork and Fiverr on October 3, 2026, along with Payoneer, Wise and PayPal. Register with your real country, as each platform asks. Read a US number for Upwork and Fiverr for setup steps.
What should you plan around?
- Texts are receive-only, so agree on another way to reply quickly.
- Calls need internet; a weak connection means a weak call.
- If you call clients a lot, check that 300 minutes covers your month, or budget for extra minutes at $5 per 100.
