A US number on your website makes it easier for American customers to reach you. It also annoys them fast if the contact page promises something the number cannot do. Run through this checklist before you put a +1 number in your header, footer and email signature.
What will the number be used for?
The TripoSIM US Virtual Number works well as a contact line for inbound calls and callbacks to US and Canadian customers. It includes:
- 300 outgoing minutes a month to the US and Canada
- incoming calls, with a fair-use allowance of 300 minutes a month
- voicemail
- texts received from US and Canadian senders
It does not send texts or call emergency numbers. It is not for call centers, robocalls or bulk campaigns. If you need queues, several agents, text replies or helpdesk integrations, you need a business phone system. Our page on US numbers for remote teams explains where that line falls.
How should you format the contact section?
Write the full number in international format: +1 (area code) XXX-XXXX. Label it “US phone” or “Call our US line”. Do not suggest you have an office in that area code’s city if you do not.
If you only answer at certain times, show your hours and time zone next to the number.
Sample copy:
Call our US line: +1 (your number). We answer Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm Eastern. If we miss you, leave a voicemail and we will call back. For written questions, use the contact form or email below.
That last line matters. It stops customers texting questions to a number you cannot reply from.
How do you make it work for every visitor?
- Add a
tel:link so mobile visitors can tap to call. - Keep an email address or contact form visible as a backup.
- Do not add a “24/7 support” badge unless someone really answers at all hours.
- If you work across time zones, say which one your hours are in.
- Test the number on a few real phones before you publish.
What about continuity?
Customers save your number. Keep it paid for as long as it appears anywhere.
If a plan ends, the TripoSIM number is held 30 days on the yearly plan or 90 days on the monthly plan. After that it is released and can be given to someone else, along with any calls from your old customers. Set a renewal reminder and keep account recovery on a separate method. The account security checklist has the steps.
What should you test before you publish?
- Call the number and check it rings and the audio is clear where you actually work.
- Call a US and a Canadian number from the app.
- Leave a voicemail and check you can play it back.
- Ask someone with a US number to text you. Remember you cannot reply.
- Check your hours and time zone on the page.
- Check that internet calling is allowed where you use the app.
- Make sure customers can reach you another way if your internet or the app fails.
The short version
A US number is a useful business contact if you present it honestly. The best contact pages say who answers, when, what happens if a call is missed, and where to write instead. For freelancers, the freelancer setup guide covers the voicemail greeting and call budget, and the plans page has the prices.
