Can you receive US text messages while abroad?

Yes. A TripoSIM US number receives SMS from US and Canadian senders while you are abroad, over Wi-Fi or mobile data. It receives verification codes (OTP SMS) from apps, including WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business. You cannot send or reply by text, and texts from other countries usually cannot reach US numbers.

What kinds of messages arrive?

Typical messages from US and Canadian senders include appointment reminders, delivery updates, messages from people, and sign-up or login codes. You receive verification codes (OTP SMS) from apps, including WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business.

What if a code is slow to arrive?

  • Check the number you typed. Choose United States (+1) and enter the 10 digits, with no extra 1 or 0.
  • Check the app is online. Codes arrive through the TripoSIM app, so check your connection and that notifications are allowed.
  • Wait for the timer, then request once more. If the app offers a voice call, choose it; the call rings in the TripoSIM app.
  • Still nothing? Contact TripoSIM support from the app or its contact page.

Can I reply to a text?

No. Sending texts is not included. If two-way texting is essential, a carrier plan or a business texting service is a better fit. Our number type comparison lays out the options.
