A US number for importers and exporters outside the US

Give US suppliers, buyers and shipping partners a +1 number to call, and keep one line for each part of your business.

Short answer

Small trading businesses outside the US use a US virtual number so American suppliers, buyers, freight forwarders and customs brokers can call a +1 number. The TripoSIM number rings in an app over Wi-Fi or mobile data, takes voicemail outside your hours and includes 300 minutes a month of calls to the US and Canada. You can have one number per business line.

Why do US trading partners prefer a US number?

A small trading business lives on short calls. A supplier in Ohio wants to confirm a price change. A buyer in Texas asks when the next container lands. A freight forwarder needs a document before a cut-off. Many US companies will not dial an international number for that, and some supplier and buyer forms only take a 10-digit +1 number.

A US virtual number gives them an ordinary US number to call. The TripoSIM US Virtual Number runs in an app on your phone over Wi-Fi or mobile data, from wherever you trade. You answer like a normal call, or callers leave a voicemail.

A +1 number does not give your business a US office or address. Show your real location on your website and invoices, and use the number as a way to reach you.

Who calls a small importer or exporter?

Who calls a trading business abroad, and what helps
CallerWhy they callWhat helps
US suppliersPrices, stock, order changes, delaysAsk for the order number at the start of every call
US buyersSamples, quotes, delivery dates, problems with an orderHours in a US time zone next to the number
Freight forwardersBookings, pickup times, documents for a shipmentThe shipment reference ready when you call back
Customs brokersQuestions about the paperwork for a shipmentDocuments by email, so you answer from the paper, not from memory
Banks and payment appsSign-in and payment codesCodes arrive as texts in the app

The number receives verification codes (OTP SMS) from apps. TripoSIM tested PayPal, Wise and Payoneer among others on October 3, 2026; that list shows examples, not a limit. See which apps send codes to the number. This page is about phone calls only; for import and export rules, ask your customs broker or freight forwarder.

How do you work across time zones?

US office hours land in your afternoon if you are in Europe, in your evening in the Gulf or South Asia, and late at night further east. Most trading questions can wait a few hours, as long as callers know when you will answer:

  1. State your hours in a US time zone, for example "Mon to Fri, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. ET", next to the number.
  2. Fix one daily call window inside US office hours. The US time-zone clock shows it for your city, and best time to call US clients has tables for Europe, India and Dubai.
  3. Play voicemail first and call back by order of urgency: shipments with a cut-off before price questions.
  4. Answer in writing in your morning, so the email is waiting when the US office opens.

Should each business line have its own number?

Often, yes. If you import under one name and export under another, or run two brands, a separate number for each keeps callers and records apart. The same person can have as many TripoSIM US numbers as they like on one account, each with its own plan, minutes and voicemail greeting, so callers hear the right business name. Pick an area code for each line where most of its partners are; see the area code guide.

How many minutes does a trading business use?

Calls suppliers and buyers make to you are included up to a fair use of 300 minutes a month. Only calls you make use your 300 minutes to the US and Canada. Each outgoing call is rounded up to the next full minute; unanswered calls are free. Three typical lines, worked out for a year:

Calls out to US and Canadian partners, by how busy the line is
ExampleCalls out to the US and CanadaExtra minutesOne year on the yearly plan
A small importer3 supplier calls a week, 15 minutes each: about 195 minutes a monthNone: within the included minutes$100
Plus US buyersthe same, plus 2 buyer calls a week of 10 minutes: about 282 minutes a monthNone: within the included minutes$100
A busy single line5 calls a week, 20 minutes each: about 434 minutes a month17 × $5 = $85 a year$185

Incoming calls do not use your minutes (fair use 300 minutes a month). Each plan includes 300 minutes a month out; extra minutes are $5 per 100, and unused extra minutes carry over to the next month, so the year counts the packs for all 12 months together. Prices before tax.

A busy line can add extra minutes at $5 per 100. If the calls really belong to two parts of the business, a second number comes with its own 300 minutes a month. The monthly plan is $12.99 with the same minutes. Try your own numbers in the cost calculator.

What about texts from partners?

The number receives texts from US and Canadian senders, such as a delivery notice or a code. Sending texts is not included, so you cannot answer a text from the number. On your website and email signature, write "call or email", not "call or text", and answer a text with an email or a call.

A setup checklist before you share the number

  1. Test calls in and out on the phone and connection you will use; the ten-check test has a log.
  2. Record a greeting with your business name, your hours in US time and your email address.
  3. Add the number to your website, invoices, quotes and email signature, with your real address. The business contact checklist has the full list.
  4. Allow notifications and the microphone. With both allowed, TripoSIM says calls ring even when the app is closed.

When is another option better?

  • Partners expect text replies: the TripoSIM number receives texts only. Use email or a business messaging tool for replies, or a provider with two-way texting; see providers compared.
  • A sales team shares the line: each number is one person's line for personal and small-business use, and call centers are not allowed. A business phone system built for teams fits better.
  • Your suppliers are outside the US and Canada: calls out go to US and Canadian numbers only. Anyone can still call your number.
