If you freelance from Dhaka, handle US buyers for a garment exporter in Gazipur or Narayanganj, or build software for a US client from Chattogram or Sylhet, the US working day starts just as your evening begins. A buyer chasing a sample or a client with a quick question would often rather call than write, and some will not dial a +880 number. Here is how the hours line up, how a US number fits each kind of work, and what to check before you rely on it.

When do Bangladeshi and US working hours overlap?

Bangladesh is UTC+6 all year and does not change its clocks (IANA tz database). US Eastern time is UTC-5 in winter and UTC-4 in summer, Central is an hour behind Eastern and Pacific three hours behind, and US summer runs from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November (NIST).

Here is a US working day, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., in Dhaka time:

Your buyer or client is inUS summer, Dhaka timeUS winter, Dhaka time
Eastern (New York, New Jersey, Atlanta)7 p.m. to 3 a.m.8 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Central (Chicago, Dallas, Minneapolis)8 p.m. to 4 a.m.9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Pacific (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle)10 p.m. to 6 a.m.11 p.m. to 7 a.m.

The window that works for most people is the first three hours of the US day: about 7 to 10 p.m. in Dhaka for New York in the US summer, and 8 to 11 p.m. in the US winter. The West Coast is harder, because their morning is your late night. Their late afternoon helps, though: 4 to 5 p.m. Pacific is 5 to 6 a.m. in Dhaka in the US summer and 6 to 7 a.m. in the US winter. If you are an early riser, one early-morning slot a week can replace a midnight call.

Check your weekend too. If Friday is your day off, the US Friday is a full working day you miss, and US buyers are off on your Sunday. Name your working days in your voicemail greeting. US clocks go back on November 1, 2026 and forward on March 14, 2027, and each time your evening window moves by an hour. The US time-zone clock shows each zone right now.

How does a US number work from Bangladesh?

The TripoSIM US Virtual Number lives in the TripoSIM app and works over Wi-Fi or mobile data. On iPhone, add the TripoSIM web app to your Home Screen. On Android, install the TripoSIM app. To get one you need an email address, a payment card and a short ID check with a photo ID and a selfie. No US address or SSN is needed.

Rules on internet calling differ by country, and a call on the number is an internet call on your network. Check with your regulator or mobile operator before you rely on calls, and keep your Bangladeshi number for calls inside Bangladesh.

Texts work differently. A text from a US sender reaches your number in the US and shows up in the app over your connection, and verification codes from apps arrive the same way. If your home Wi-Fi drops now and then, keep mobile data on as a backup. TripoSIM says calls ring even when the app is closed once notifications and the microphone are allowed; a phone that is off, offline or has notifications blocked does not ring, and callers reach voicemail.

Which setup fits your work?

Freelancers. Many freelancers in Bangladesh find US clients through Upwork and Fiverr and get paid through Payoneer. All three sent their verification codes to a TripoSIM number in TripoSIM’s tests on October 3, 2026; keep each profile set to your real country, because a phone number does not change where you live. Put the +1 number on your profile and proposals with your hours in Eastern time. See a US number for Upwork and Fiverr, the Payoneer guide and the freelancers page.

Garment and textile exporters. A merchandiser who looks after US buyers deals with sample approvals, test reports, delivery dates and the buyer’s freight forwarder. A +1 number turns a buyer’s quick question into an ordinary US call, and voicemail catches the ones that come in at 2 a.m. your time. Give each merchandiser their own number, so a buyer reaches the person who knows the order. The importers and exporters page has more on calls from buyers, forwarders and customs brokers.

Software firms. Most of the work with a US client happens in tickets, chat and video calls, which use no minutes. The phone is for the moments that need a voice: a client’s CTO who wants a quick word before a release, or a new lead who found your website. Give that to the account manager or project lead, one number each. A shared support line that rings several engineers is a different tool: the number is one person’s line for personal and small-business use, and call centers are not allowed. US numbers for remote teams covers when you need a business phone system instead.

How many minutes does a shipment month use?

Take Tanvir, a made-up example: a merchandiser at a knitwear exporter near Dhaka with three US buyers. He has one 20-minute call a week with each buyer, which is 60 minutes a week, or about 260 minutes a month. That is inside the 300 minutes a month to the US and Canada. Each outgoing call is rounded up to the next full minute; unanswered calls are free.

In a month with a shipment, he adds four 15-minute calls about dates and documents, which takes him to about 320 minutes. That month he buys one pack of 100 minutes for $5. Top-up minutes are used after your monthly minutes, stay valid while your number is active and carry over when you renew. They are not refundable. Calls buyers make to him do not use his minutes: they come from a separate fair use of 300 minutes a month. The cost calculator works out your own month.

What should your contact page and voicemail say?

Most US calls will reach you outside your evening window, so the greeting does a lot of the work. Say who you are, where you are and when you call back, in your buyer’s time zone:

You have reached (name) at (company) in Dhaka, Bangladesh. I return calls Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon Eastern. Please leave your name, your order or style number and a good time to reach you, or email (your address).

Write “call or email”, not “call or text”, on your website and email signature. A US area code makes you easy to call; it does not give you a US office, so give your real city. Voicemail messages can be up to 2 minutes, up to 30 a month, kept 30 days. The voicemail guide and the business contact checklist have more.

What can’t the number do?

  • No sending texts. It receives texts only. For written questions, buyers can use email or WhatsApp, which you can set up on the same US number.
  • No calls out beyond the US and Canada. Use your Bangladeshi line for Bangladeshi numbers.
  • No 911. It cannot call 911 or any emergency service, so keep your Bangladeshi number for emergencies.
  • Not a shared line. It rings one person’s app. One person can have several numbers, each with its own plan, for example one per group of buyers.

The bottom line

From Bangladesh, plan US calls for your evening: about 7 to 10 p.m. for New York in the US summer, an hour later in the US winter, and an early-morning slot for the West Coast. Give buyers and clients a +1 number with your hours in Eastern time, let voicemail cover the night and your weekend, and give each person who talks to US accounts their own line. Check the rules on internet calling first, then test calls with the ten-check reliability test. The plans page has both plans: $100 a year or $12.99 a month.
