A US number for founders with a US company or US customers

Give your company a +1 line for customers, investors and Stripe, and receive bank and payment app codes on it, from wherever you live.

Short answer

Founders outside the US use a US virtual number as their company's +1 line. Customers and investors call it, it can be the support number on receipts, and it receives verification codes (OTP SMS) from bank and payment apps. The TripoSIM number includes 300 minutes a month of calls to the US and Canada.

Why does a founder abroad need a US number?

You formed a US company while living somewhere else, or you sell to US customers from another country. Sign-up forms, payment providers and customers keep asking for a phone number. A +1 number gives them one they can dial without thinking about international rates, and it keeps company calls off your personal mobile.

The TripoSIM US Virtual Number runs in an app on the phone you already have, over Wi-Fi or mobile data. It is a phone line, not a US address or a US office. The guide to a US number for a non-US LLC explains where that line sits next to your company papers, EIN and bank account.

What phone numbers does Stripe ask for?

Stripe's help center lists three phone numbers for accounts opened in the United States. Here is what it says, checked on October 31, 2026.

Phone numbers Stripe asks for on US accounts, from Stripe's help center checked October 31, 2026
NumberWhat Stripe's help page saysWhere a TripoSIM US number fits
Business phoneMust be "a valid and active US-based phone number". Not required for Individual or Sole Prop accounts. For companies incorporated through Stripe Atlas, it can be in any country.A +1 number your company answers. Stripe decides which numbers it accepts in this field.
Customer support phoneCan be in any country. Stripe shows it on card statements, invoices and receipts.A +1 number US customers can call without international rates, with voicemail when you are offline
Representative or owner phoneCan be in any country, except Individual and Sole Prop accounts, where it must be an active US-based number.Your own mobile number works for most account types; for Individual and Sole Prop accounts, Stripe decides which US numbers it accepts

So the strict US rule applies to the business phone on most company accounts, and to the representative phone on Individual and Sole Prop accounts. The support number can be in any country. A +1 number is a natural fit there, because a US customer who sees it on a card statement can call it like any other US number.

Stripe decides which numbers it accepts in each field, and its help page does not name number types. Enter the number and follow what Stripe's form tells you. Our post on Stripe's US phone number requirements goes through each field in more detail.

Will bank and payment app codes arrive?

A text message in the TripoSIM app containing a six-digit verification code; the app notes that you cannot reply to this sender
A verification code, as it arrives. Real app screen, example number.

Yes. The TripoSIM number receives verification codes (OTP SMS) from apps, including bank and payment apps. TripoSIM tested 22 apps in October 2026. Stripe, PayPal, Wise and Payoneer each sent their code to its US numbers on October 3, 2026. The verification research lists every app and date.

Getting a code is not the same as opening an account. A bank or payment provider still checks your company documents and your identity, and a phone number does not replace those checks.

For logging in, Stripe lists passkeys, security keys, Touch ID or Windows Hello and authenticator apps as more secure than text messages, and advises setting up two or more methods. Add one of those stronger methods on Stripe, your bank and your payment apps, so you can still sign in on a day your phone has no internet.

Who will call the company number?

  • Customers: someone who sees your support number on a receipt, an invoice or a card statement and wants to ask about a charge.
  • Investors and advisers: a quick call to set up a meeting or follow up after one.
  • Suppliers and service providers: a US supplier, your accountant or a partner calling about an order or a document.

Calls to you are included up to a fair use of 300 minutes a month. When you are asleep or offline, callers leave a voicemail of up to 2 minutes, up to 30 messages a month, kept 30 days. Say your hours in a US time zone in the greeting, such as "Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Eastern". The US time-zone clock shows the overlap with your day.

How many minutes does a founder use?

Only calls you make use your 300 minutes to US and Canadian numbers. Each outgoing call is rounded up to the next full minute; unanswered calls are free. Three founders, worked out for a year:

Calls out from a founder abroad, by how busy the company is
ExampleCalls out to the US and CanadaExtra minutesOne year on the yearly plan
Investor and partner calls2 calls a week, 20 minutes each: about 174 minutes a monthNone: within the included minutes$100
Plus customer callbacksthe same, plus 4 callbacks a week of 6 minutes: about 278 minutes a monthNone: within the included minutes$100
Fundraising pace6 calls a week, 15 minutes each: about 390 minutes a month11 × $5 = $55 a year$155

Incoming calls do not use your minutes (fair use 300 minutes a month). Each plan includes 300 minutes a month out; extra minutes are $5 per 100, and unused extra minutes carry over to the next month, so the year counts the packs for all 12 months together. Prices before tax.

The monthly plan is $12.99 with the same minutes. Fundraising weeks are busy but rarely last all year. Extra minutes cost $5 per 100, stay valid while your number is active and carry over when you renew, so a busy month does not need a different plan. Try your own numbers in the cost calculator.

Should each company have its own number?

If you run more than one company, usually yes. One person can have as many TripoSIM US numbers as they like on one account, each with its own plan, minutes and voicemail greeting. Each company's website, receipts and Stripe account can then show a number that belongs to that company, and each greeting names the right business.

Two companies on yearly plans cost $200 a year (2 × $100). If you close one company, you can end that plan and keep the other. When a yearly plan ends, the number is kept 30 days, then released, so move that company's logins and update its Stripe details first. Our guide on number recycling explains why.

A setup checklist

  1. Pick an area code near your customers, or a well-known one like New York 212. See the area code list.
  2. Record a greeting with the company name, your hours in a US time zone and your support email.
  3. Publish it honestly. Put the number on your website and invoices next to your real business location. The business contact checklist has the full list.
  4. Add a stronger sign-in method, such as a passkey or an authenticator app, on Stripe, your bank and your payment apps.
  5. Test it with a call while your phone is locked, then run the ten-check test.
  6. Note each renewal date, so a number printed on receipts never lapses by accident.

When is another option better?

  • Customers expect text replies: the TripoSIM number receives texts but cannot send them. Use email or a chat tool for written support, or see providers compared.
  • A team shares the support line: the number is for personal and small-business use, and call centers are not allowed. A business phone system with call queues suits a team better.
  • You call customers outside the US and Canada: calls out go to US and Canadian numbers only. Anyone can still call your number.
  • You need a US address: the number is not an office address, and it does not call 911.
  • Company, tax or banking decisions: this page covers the phone line only and gives no legal or tax advice. Ask a qualified adviser.
