How Wise delivers codes:TextCallWhatsAppWise appPasskey

Wise protects transfers and logins with 2-step verification, and one of its methods is a code sent to your phone number. If you live outside the US, a US number in an app keeps those codes coming in any country. This guide covers how Wise sends codes, how to switch your number safely, and Wise’s own fixes when a code is slow. Each Wise step is from Wise Help.

How does Wise send verification codes?

Wise lists several 2-step methods:

  • A code by text or phone call to your number.
  • A code by WhatsApp, if your WhatsApp number matches your Wise primary number.
  • Wise app notifications, passkeys and authenticator apps.

The TripoSIM US number receives Wise’s texts in the TripoSIM app, and calls ring there too. TripoSIM tested Wise on October 3, 2026. If you also register WhatsApp on the same US number, Wise’s WhatsApp option goes to it as well.

Logging in on a new device also needs an email confirmation, or a selfie if you are eligible.

How do you put your US number on your Wise account?

Wise’s path, in the app or on the web:

  1. Tap your profile name or icon, then Settings.
  2. Open Personal details and enter the new number: United States (+1) and the 10 digits.
  3. Confirm it with the code that arrives in the TripoSIM app.

Wise’s advice: change the number before you give up the old SIM. Wise may send a code to your old number during the change.

How do you choose your 2-step settings?

Go to your name, Settings, Security and privacy, then Edit default. Wise says text messages cannot be removed as a method, but you can change which one is the default.

A passkey or the Wise app as your default is a good pair with a US number: Wise says both need only internet, so they keep working abroad or after a SIM change. Wise also notes that in some countries, including Singapore, Malaysia, the UAE and the Philippines, customers can only use passkeys or the Wise app.

What if you lose access to your number?

Wise has a route for that: on the login screen, choose Try another way, then I don’t have access to this number, confirm your identity, and change the number. If you are eligible, you can recover with a selfie instead.

To avoid needing it, keep your TripoSIM plan active. If a plan ends, the number is kept 30 days on the yearly plan or 90 days on the monthly plan, then released. See number recycling and account security.

What if the code does not arrive?

  1. Check you are looking at the right number: the one registered with Wise, in the TripoSIM app.
  2. Check the TripoSIM app is online with notifications allowed. Wise suggests turning mobile data off and on, or restarting the phone.
  3. Choose Try another way for a call, WhatsApp or another method.
  4. An error about texts? Wise says this can follow too many requests. Use WhatsApp, a call or another method, and wait before asking for another text.
  5. Still stuck? Contact TripoSIM support about the number.
