- Telegramdelivers the code
- Your +1 numberreceives the text or call
- TripoSIM appshows it on your phone
Telegram ties every account to a phone number. A US number you keep gives you a +1 account that works wherever you live, and the login code reaches the TripoSIM app over Wi-Fi or mobile data. This guide covers signing up, moving an existing account and keeping it safe, with each Telegram step taken from Telegram’s own FAQ.
How does Telegram send the login code?
Telegram has three ways to send it:
- Inside Telegram. If you are already logged in on another phone, tablet or computer, Telegram may send the code there first, as a message from the verified Telegram account.
- By text. When there is no logged-in device, the code comes as a text to your number. On the TripoSIM US number it shows up in the TripoSIM app.
- By phone call. Telegram can also read the code in a call, though it says this is not available everywhere and may need 2-Step Verification turned on. On the TripoSIM number the call rings in the app.
Telegram accounts need a mobile number, not a landline. The TripoSIM US number receives Telegram’s code, and TripoSIM tested Telegram on October 3, 2026.
How do you sign up for Telegram with your US number?
- Get your number. Choose a plan, complete the short ID check and pick your US number in the TripoSIM app.
- Keep the TripoSIM app online. Allow notifications so the code shows the moment it arrives.
- Open Telegram. Choose United States (+1) and type the 10-digit number. Telegram asks for the number in international format, so leave out any extra 1 or 0.
- Enter the code. It arrives as a text in the TripoSIM app, or inside Telegram if you are logged in somewhere else.
- Turn on 2-Step Verification before you do anything else (see below).
How do you move an existing Telegram account to the US number?
Telegram’s FAQ gives the path: Settings, tap your phone number above your username, then Change Number. Your contacts, messages, media and Secret Chats stay with the account.
Two things to know first:
- If the US number already has its own Telegram account, that account has to be deleted before you can move yours onto it.
- Telegram says you only need to change the number if you moved for good. If you are just on a trip with another SIM, keep your account as it is.
You can also keep both: Telegram treats each number as its own account, and one app can hold several. Your home number stays your personal account and the US number becomes a second one.
How do you keep the account safe?
- Turn on 2-Step Verification. In Settings, then Privacy and Security, then 2-Step Verification. After that, logging in needs the code and your cloud password, so the number alone cannot open the account.
- Add a recovery email for the password. Telegram uses it if you forget the password.
- Set up a passkey. Telegram lets you log in with your device PIN, fingerprint or face, without a text code, which helps when you travel.
- Keep the number. Telegram says the phone number is how it identifies you, and without the number or a logged-in device its support cannot help. Keep your TripoSIM plan active. If a plan ends, the number is kept 30 days on the yearly plan or 90 days on the monthly plan, then released. Our guide to number recycling and account security explains why that matters.
What if the code does not arrive?
- Check your other devices. If Telegram sent the code inside Telegram, it is in the chat from the verified Telegram account on any device where you are logged in.
- Check the number format. United States (+1), then the 10 digits.
- Check the TripoSIM app is online with notifications allowed, then request the code once and wait for the timer.
- Use the call option if Telegram offers it. The call rings in the TripoSIM app.
- Still stuck? Telegram’s FAQ links a form for registration and login problems. For the number itself, contact TripoSIM support.
For codes from other apps, see which apps send codes to the number, or look one up in the app check tool.
