Your Apple Account holds your photos, purchases and device backups, and two-factor authentication guards it with a code sent to a trusted phone number. If your only trusted number is the SIM in your iPhone, losing that phone or that SIM can lock you out. A US number in the TripoSIM app gives you a second trusted number that you keep wherever you live. Every Apple step below is from Apple Support.
How does Apple send the code?
When you sign in on a new device, Apple asks for your password and a six-digit code. The code shows on one of your trusted devices, or Apple delivers it as a text or a call to a trusted phone number. To get it by phone, tap Didn’t Get a Code? or Can’t get to your devices? and choose your trusted number.
The TripoSIM US number receives Apple’s text in the TripoSIM app, and the call rings there too. TripoSIM tested Apple ID on October 3, 2026. Apple notes that on iPhone the trusted number is sometimes checked in the background, with no code to type.
Why add a second trusted number?
Apple says two-factor authentication needs at least one trusted phone number, and suggests adding an extra number that is not tied to your iPhone. A US number in an app fits:
- It does not depend on the SIM in your phone.
- It works over Wi-Fi or mobile data in any country.
- It stays yours while your plan is active.
Apple also says two-factor authentication is the default, and accounts created with it cannot turn it off, so a number you will keep is worth having.
How do you add the US number as a trusted number?
- iPhone or iPad: Settings, your name, Sign-In & Security, Two-Factor Authentication, then Add Trusted Phone Number.
- Mac: System Settings, your name, Sign-In & Security, Two-Factor Authentication, then Add Trusted Phone Number.
- Web: sign in at account.apple.com, open Sign-In and Security, then Account Security, and use the Trusted Phone Number section.
Choose United States (+1), type the 10-digit number, and enter the code that arrives in the TripoSIM app.
What if you lose access to a trusted number?
Apple’s advice depends on whether it is temporary:
- For a while (for example, a plan you are renewing): wait until you have the number back, then sign in and add more trusted numbers.
- For good: choose Can’t use [phone number] and follow account recovery. Apple says recovery can take several days and contacting Apple will not speed it up.
That is why the second number matters. Keep your TripoSIM plan active: if it ends, the number is kept 30 days on the yearly plan or 90 days on the monthly plan, then released. See number recycling and account security.
What if the code does not arrive?
- Check your trusted devices first: the code may show there.
- Choose the trusted US number under Didn’t Get a Code?, and pick a text or a call.
- Check the TripoSIM app is online with notifications allowed. The code comes to the TripoSIM app, not your iPhone’s Messages app.
- Still nothing? Contact TripoSIM support about the number.
For other apps, see which apps send codes to the number, or check one in the app check tool.
