How Airbnb delivers codes:TextPhone call

Airbnb asks guests to verify a phone number before booking and hosts before listing, and it uses the number for codes and trip contact. A US number in the TripoSIM app gets Airbnb’s code over Wi-Fi or mobile data, wherever you live. Every Airbnb step below is from the Airbnb Help Center.

How does Airbnb deliver its code?

When you verify a phone, Airbnb sends a 4-digit code by text message (SMS). For two-factor authentication you can pick a text or a phone call. The TripoSIM US number receives Airbnb’s text in the TripoSIM app and takes calls there. TripoSIM tested Airbnb on October 3, 2026.

Airbnb says some phone types may not receive its code, including most virtual (VoIP) numbers. That is why it is worth verifying the number at home, before you travel.

How do you add your US number to Airbnb?

On desktop:

  1. Click Profile, then Account, then Personal information.
  2. Go to Phone number and click Edit.
  3. Select United States (+1) and enter your area code and number.
  4. Click Verify and enter the 4-digit code from the TripoSIM app.

To change it later: Menu, Account settings, Personal Information, then Edit next to Phone number. Once a number is on the account you can log in with it. If the account lists more than one number, or the number is on more than one account, log in with your email.

How do you set up two-factor authentication?

  1. Click Menu, Account settings, then Login & security.
  2. In the Set up two-factor authentication banner, click Set up now.
  3. Choose a text or a phone call for your one-time passcode and enter it.
  4. Create a PIN and add security questions.

Airbnb requires this for hosts in the European Economic Area. To change the phone number later you must pass two-factor first. If you cannot reach any number on the account, choose Need Help on the two-factor screen; Airbnb says it replies within 12 to 24 hours.

What do hosts and guests see?

After a reservation is accepted, Airbnb shows all phone numbers on your account to the other party. For eligible reservations in the US and Canada, Airbnb may assign temporary numbers instead, so neither side sees the real one. They work for calls and texts until 48 hours after checkout, and WhatsApp is not supported on them.

Your US number takes host calls in the TripoSIM app and receives texts from US and Canadian senders. It cannot send texts, so answer hosts in Airbnb messages. For emergencies on a trip, keep a local mobile line: the number cannot call 911.

What if the code does not arrive?

  1. Check the country code (+1) and the 10 digits.
  2. Check the TripoSIM app is online with notifications allowed.
  3. Try Airbnb’s own fixes: log out, clear your cache, try a private window or another browser.
  4. Number already in use? Log in with your email, or remove the number from the other account.
  5. Still nothing: contact Airbnb. For the number itself, contact TripoSIM support.

Keep the number too. If your TripoSIM plan ends, the number is kept 30 days on the yearly plan or 90 days on the monthly plan, then released. See number recycling and account security. For other apps, see which apps send codes to the number.
